Little is known of the new movie ‘Elysium’ which is set to premiere next year. Although it has been pretty much kept under wraps, the first photos of Matt Damon (sans his glorious blond head of hair) in character were revealed. There doesn’t seem to be too much that can be inferred about the movie just by looking at the photos except that Matt Damon gets injured and is outfitted with some cool futuristic weaponry.
This project is so secretive that even the name of Damon’s character is not revealed. (On imdb.com, it only lists him as “actor”). What we do know is that the film is to take place in the future with the spreading threat of an alien colonization around the world and it centers on an ex-con (played by Damon). The script was written by Neill Blomkamp (‘District 9’) who will also be directing the film.
Last year while talking about this project, Matt Damon did divulge what the fans can expect to see in this movie. “I’ve never done anything quite like this” he stated, “and I kind of responded to what’s out there and what’s in and what’s good. The movie is going to be good, he showed me basically the entire world which he’s going to build and it’s really, really exciting. And I can’t wait!”
Just like ‘District 9’, a viral campaign has already started even though the movie is not set to be released until next year. The video is under the guise of a recruitment ad for a tech company called Armadyne, a company where cutting-edge technology meets human innovation, and which is currently looking for workers who are experienced in zero-g welding, quantum networkings, and multi-generational planning. It promises to be ‘the most ambitious project ever undertaken by mankind’. Armadyne also has a site that will be coming soon where one can “apply.” You can watch their recruitment video below:
Along with Matt Damon, ‘Elysium’ also stars Jodie Foster (as the head of state of an alien planet), Sharlto Copley, Diego Luna and William Fitchner and is expected to hit the theaters on March 2013.
