Genre films have continued to do well at this summer’s box office.

‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon’ debuted this past week and took in $97.8 million for the weekend. It’s total domestic take now stands at $180.6 million with a worldwide box office of $418 million. I’m sure they’ve already started working on that next script.

Retro-science fiction film ‘Super 8′ dropped just one place to fifth taking in an additional $7.4 million to bring its domestic total to $110 million and its worldwide total to $155 million.

Warner Bros./DC Comics’ ‘Green Lantern’ fell to seventh place taking in $6.5 million. It’s worldwide box office now sits at just $136.9 million.

Marvel’s ‘X-Men: First Class’, dropped out of the top 10 to eleventh taking in $2.9 million to bring its worldwide box office total to $335 million.

Disney’s ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’ dropped to thirteenth taking in an additional $2.1 million to cross the magical $1 billion mark.
