Rowling is getting ready to release a new website called ‘Pottermore.’  Check it out for yourself. You’ll see a couple of owls and a message that says “coming soon” but if you click on the owl you’ll find yourself rerouted to a counter that tells you exactly how long we have until launch.

What will it contain?  No one knows except The Leaky Cauldron, a Potter fansite who was recently granted a sneak peek.  They described it as “one of the most amazing, engaging and breathtaking additions to this fandom imaginable.”

Neil Blair, Rowling’s lawyer, didn’t have much to say about it except, “this is not a new Harry Potter book.”

So what is it then?

The rumor is that we’re looking at an interactive site that will act as a meeting place for fans.  It’ll offer games, a Harry Potter encyclopedia, readings by Stephen Fry and competitions. Fans will also be able to buy the books through the site as well.  Well, allegedly.  We don’t really know.  But this is the buzz.

The problem with creating this type of buzz is that the website needs to be as good as the anticipation is causing people to believe that it is.  If it falls short that many a Harry Potter fan will find themselves disappointed and disheartened.  Will J.K. Rowling be able to deliver something that the fans will find engaging and fun?  We’ll have to wait and see.

As of my writing this, there’s nearly two days left on the counter.  Be sure to keep checking back – this site should be quite exciting!
