I’ve heard of battles between movies before…but Snow White? Really? Anyway, Universal Pictures and Relativity Media entrenched and are going ahead with their rival Snow White films. Deadline reported that Universal, which had the later release date, decided to “swap release dates of Judd Apatow’s next untitled film (which was supposed to come out June 1), and has given that June 1, 2012 date to ‘Snow White and the Huntsman.’ At present, Relativity Media’s film, ‘The Brothers Grimm: Snow White,’ is dated for June 29, 2012 with shooting to begin in August. Universal’s decision comes days after the studio finally set Thor star Chris Hemsworth as its Huntsman, which Deadline was the first to reveal would happen. He joins Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron and Sam Claflin in the Rupert Sanders-directed film.”
I never imagined that Snow White would be such a hot topic for a film, but to be honest both sound quite interesting. Of course neither company wants to be the one whose film is released last, so it’s understandable why Universal would move theirs up when the opportunity presented itself.
Whether or not either will be worth watching remains to be seen. Stay tuned for more information on this and other film projects as they become available!
