The week of May 16 brings us genre fans some supernatural thrillers, the animated adventures of Marvel’s Mighty Thor and some classics television series. Coming out on DVD/Blu-ray are the following – ‘The Rite,’ ‘Vanishing on 7th Street’ and the animated ‘Thor: Tales of Asgard.’  Expect to also find ‘The Twilight Zone: Season 4,’ and ‘The Bionic Woman: Season Two.’  Both are great series for those who are into classic shows.

‘The Rite’: Inspired by true events, ‘The Rite’ follows skeptical seminary student Michael Kovak (Colin O’Donoghue), who reluctantly attends exorcism school at the Vatican. While in Rome, he meets an unorthodox priest, Father Lucas (Anthony Hopkins), who introduces him to the darker side of his faith. Directed by Mikael Hafstroem (‘1408’), ‘The Rite’ is a supernatural thriller that uncovers the devil’s reach to even one of the holiest places on Earth.

‘Vanishing on 7th Street’:  An unexplained blackout plunges the city of Detroit into total darkness, and by the time the sun rises, only a few people remain – surrounded by heaps of empty clothing, abandoned cars and lengthening shadows. A small handful of strangers that have survived the night each find their way to a rundown bar, whose gasoline-powered generator and stockpile of food and drink make it the last refuge in a deserted city. With daylight beginning to disappear completely and whispering shadows surrounding the survivors, they soon discover that the enemy is the darkness itself, and only the few remaining light sources can keep them safe. As time begins to run out for them, darkness closes in and they must face the ultimate terror.

‘Thor: Tales of Asgard’: Before Thor ever lifted his mighty hammer, he journeyed to the mysterious nine realms. A place of dark mists and fiery voids. Of winged creatures and giants in the ice. And of the most alluring quest of all – the search for the legendary Lost Sword of Surtur. Hungry for adventure, Thor secretly embarks on the journey of a lifetime, joined by his loyal brother Loki, whose budding sorcery equips him with just enough magic to conjure up trouble, along with the Warriors Three – a band of boastful travelers reluctant to set sail on any adventure that might actually be dangerous. But what starts out as a harmless treasure hunt quickly turns deadly, and Thor must now prove himself worthy of the destiny he covets by saving Asgard itself.
