According to Deadline, Warners Bros has found it’s iconic American superhero in British actor Henry Cavill.

Best known for his portrayal of Charles Brandon on Showtime’s ‘The Tudors’, Cavill also stars in the upcoming epic film ‘Immortals’. In ‘Immortals’, he plays the imposing Greek warrior Theseus who battles with mythological gods and monsters such as Zeus, Poseidon and Herecles. A Warner Bros executive had this to say about Cavill, “he’s got an amazing quality…he’s big and strong and he has a very modern feel to him. We’re going to try and make Superman as contemporary as possible.” 27-year-old Cavill was also in consideration for the lead role in Christoper Nolan’s ‘Batman’ reboot as well as MGM’s latest reboot of the ‘James Bond’ franchise.

The new ‘Superman’ film is under the guidance of Christopher Nolan who engineered the exceptional ‘Batman’ reboot as well as writing and directing top genre films such as ‘Inception’. Zack Snyder (‘300’, ‘Watchmen’) who will direct the film had this to say about the character and Cavill, “in the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time, and I am honored to be a part of his return to the big screen. I also join Warner Bros., Legendary and the producers in saying how excited we are about the casting of Henry. He is the perfect choice to don the cape and S shield.”
