Jessica Jones

With the big news yesterday of Netflix officially cancelling both ‘The Punisher’ and ‘Jessica Jones,’ the latter of which has yet to even premiere its third season, there have been a lot of reactions online about the decision, none more interesting than from the cast and crew of the cancelled series. While most have thanked the fans and the people they have worked with over the years, some (like the showrunner for ‘Jessica Jones’) have also taken the opportunity to get people excited for the upcoming third and final season, dropping hints about what is to come.

‘Jessica Jones’ series star Kristen Ritter took to Instgram to share her own thoughts after news of the cancellation broke, sharing a photo from production of the final season and thanking the fans for all of their support – (check out the actual post right below):

“Taken a few weeks back at the table read for our series finale. I love these people to the moon and back. It has been a dream to play Jessica alongside my amazing cast and the best crew in the business for these past 5 years. I am so grateful for every second of it…We have the best fans. You guys mean the world to me and I appreciate you beyond words. The final season of Jessica Jones is coming later this year and I am proud of how we complete JJ’s journey. I can’t wait for you all to see it. Stay tuned and more to come.”

Creator and show-runner Melissa Rosenberg offered her own thanks to the fans on Twitter following news of the cancellation, sharing her excitement for everyone to see what they have in store for the final season:

Rosenberg also hinted at one big surprise for the final season when a fan bid farewell to Kilgrave, lamenting not getting another chance to see the villain again after Season 2, to which Rosenberg replied “Not quite yet!” Check it out for yourself below:

Based on that, it seems very likely that Kilgrave will be making an appearance once more in Season 3, though it will likely be as another hallucination of Jessica’s (similar to Season 2) as bringing him back from the dead in any way just does not seem to be the style of the world that the Netflix/ MCU has built. But who knows? There is a good chance Rosenberg and company suspected the cancellation was coming and pulled out all of the stops for the final season, including bringing back Kilgrave from the dead. The character was arguably the best villain the Netflix/ MCU saw over the course of its run, and he was a very formidable foe for both Jessica and Luke Cage, and having him return at the end would make things very interesting and dark for Jessica.

What are your thoughts on Kilgrave coming back? Do you think it could happen? And how do you feel about the end of the Marvel/ Netflix partnership? Feel free to share your opinions and theories about it all in the comments below!
