Picard

With details on the upcoming “Star Trek” Picard series still wrapped in mystery, we’ve just found news about it from the actor who played his old Number One – Jonathan Frakes. Just as Riker could be bold and outspoken on ‘Star Trek: TNG,’ Frakes let loose a fun fact on the upcoming series while talking about his own work directing the ‘Star Trek: Discovery‘ episode titled “New Eden.”

During his interview with Deadline, Frakes was asked what the cast of ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ thought of Patrick Stewart’s new series:

“The feeling is we would love to be part of it. But the feeling is also that it’s Patrick’s show. [Laughs.] Having said that, I can’t imagine a world where there’s no reference to what happened to the rest of the Next Generation cast. Patrick isn’t playing Capt. Jean-Luc Picard this time, he’s done with Starfleet in this show. That’s about the only thing I do know about the show. Patrick and I had a steak dinner a couple of weeks ago and this man, who I’ve known for 31 years now, is so excited about this show he’s like a little kid. It’s fabulous! He’s thrilled and excited to be invited into the writer’s room, and he’s a producer on the show, and he’s part of the development of the story arc. It’s terrific. I mean he is a guy who is fully engaged.”

Yes, he went there at the end of the quote. Still, the key takeaway is that Picard is no longer part of Starfleet which is something that there have been rumblings of before. Not only that, but it sounds like we might at least find out a few updates of what is happening with the iconic crew of The Enterprise, NCC-1701-D. I’m sure we’re all hoping for some cameos that don’t feel shoehorned in.

Were you hoping that Picard would still be part of Starfleet in his new series? What direction do you feel his life will be taking if he isn’t in uniform? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
