Jonathan Frakes made it big in the genre as Commander Riker on ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ and now Trekkies everywhere should be thrilled to hear that he’s back in the captain’s chair for ‘Star Trek: Discovery‘. Well, director’s chair that is. He didn’t don his old Commander’s costume for the show but instead directed last night’s episode “Despite Yourself.’ Thankfully Frakes, who is an established director in his own right, gave us some callback to the feeling of the Trek we know and love.

Not only is Frakes known for his acting, but he is also an accomplished director in both TV and films. On top of that, he has also worked on episodes for both ‘Star Trek: Deep Space Nine’ and ‘Star Trek: Voyager.’ Oh, and Seth MacFarlane’s ‘The Orville’ also already got him into the director’s chair prior to this.
