Which is to say it’s not.  At all.

Full disclosure, I almost never like toys based on movies, because they’re always so drab and dull in their paint schemes.  The only live-action figures I’ve bought in recent years were from ‘Wonder Woman’ and ‘Black Panther’, so if you like the live-action figures, take my opinion with a grain of salt.  But I think you’d have to agree that the action figures based on characters just wearing plain clothes are the worst.

Though images of Mark Strong as ‘Shazam!’ baddie Thaddeus Bodog Sivana have been widely circulated, this new picture of the toy prototype is being touted as a better look at how he will appear in the movie.  You can check it out below:

Nothing puts the “action” in action figure like a long molded plastic trenchcoat, just to make it even less poseable than normal.

It appears that this is part of the kid-targeted line, as opposed to the more deluxe DC Multiverse assortment, which is aimed at adult collectors.  Presumably, there will be ‘Shazam!’ figures in both formats, as was the case with ‘Aquaman’.

If it helps, in the trailers, it appears that Sivana obtains superpowers of his own, so he’s not a totally unappealing “plain bald guy” action figure.  Still, it’s not hard to imagine the designers at Mattel lamenting that Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam got bumped from this picture.

Directed by David F. Sandberg, ‘Shazam!’ stars Zachary LeviAsher AngelCooper Andrews, Jovan Armand, Ian ChenGrace FultonJack Dylan GrazerFaithe HermanDjimon Hounsou, and Marta Milans.  The film also includes Adam Brody, Ross Butler, DJ Cotrona, and Meagan Goode in mystery roles.  (Hmmmm…)

‘Shazam!’ booms into theaters on April 5, 2019.
