Producers Guild Of America To Honor Kevin Feige Black Panther

Kevin Feige will be presented with a special honor at the Producers Guild of America Awards on January 19.  Feige is, of course, the man in charge of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Hollywood’s most unstoppable franchise.  In addition to that, Marvel’s ‘Black Panther’ is up for the top film prize, the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Theatrical Motion Pictures, which bodes well moving into awards season.  ‘Black Panther’ is the first superhero movie that has had a serious shot at major accolades from the film industry.  Should ‘Black Panther’ win, the award would go to Feige.

In addition to Feige, the PGA is presenting special honors to Amy Sherman-Palladino (‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’), Kenya Barris (‘black-ish’), Toby Emmerich (‘Rampage’) and Jane Fonda (‘Grace and Frankie’).  Meanwhile, in the film category, ‘Black Panther’ is competing against ‘BlacKkKlansman’, ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, ‘Crazy Rich Asians’, ‘The Favourite’, ‘Green Book’, ‘A Quiet Place’, ‘Roma’, ‘A Star Is Born’, and ‘Vice’.

Although it was heralded as a surefire award hopeful, ‘A Quiet Place’, which was released in April, seems to have been largely forgotten by the voting bodies.  It only received one Golden Globe nomination, for Best Score, and one Screen Actors Guild nod for Emily Blunt.  ‘A Quiet Place’ was produced by Michael Bay, Andrew Form, and Brad Fuller.  So the fact that it is nominated for the film award is a good thing.

In the arena of Animated Movie, the nominations are ‘Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch’, ‘Incredibles 2’, ‘Isle of Dogs’, ‘Ralph Breaks the Internet’ and ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse‘.

Hulu’s ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ is once again nominated for Drama Series, opposite ‘The Americans’, ‘Better Call Saul’, ‘Ozark’ and ‘This Is Us’.  The nominees for Comedy Series are ‘Atlanta’, ‘Barry’, ‘GLOW’, ‘The Good Place’ and ‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’.  ‘The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story’, ‘Escape at Dannemora’, ‘Maniac’, ‘The Romanoffs’ and ‘Sharp Objects’ are up for Best Limited Series.

The ‘Sense 8‘ finale movie, ‘Together Until the End’, is up for TV movie, against ‘Fahrenheit 451‘, ‘King Lear’, ‘My Dinner with Herve’, and ‘Paterno’.

The PGA awards will be handed out on January 19, at the Beverly Hilton.
