The Secret Invasion Will Inspire Dark Phoenix According To Simon Kinberg

As the release date draws near, director Simon Kinberg has started to dish on his upcoming ‘Dark Phoenix’ X-Men film. We’ve known for a while that things would be going in a slightly cosmic direction and now have learned that We still haven’t seen a Skrull in any of the previews for the film, but that just helps cement the fact that these shapeshifting aliens are going to be making an appearance.

We’re already been introduced to the alien race in ‘Captain Marvel‘, and now we’ll also be getting a Fox version of them before the rights fully end up with Marvel Studios after the Disney buyout of Fox’s properties comes to a close.

Kinberg shared this detail at CCXP 2018 in Brazil where he stated that ‘the Fox film would, of course, be inspired by the “Dark Phoenix Saga” but also that the “Secret Invasion” arc will play into the movie also. In this set of comics we saw the Skrulls put themselves in power in nearly every major government and business across the globe in a way which allowed them to take down Earth’s Mightiest Heroes by leaving The Avengers, X-Men, Fantastic Four, and all of the major heroes taken out in one form or another with many even replaced.

While the idea has yet to be proposed, that would almost lead one to believe that some of the X-Men may have already been replaced by these aliens. I’d love for them to find a way for this to be pulled off considering the X-Men’s leader can read the minds of those around him.
