The Russo Brothers Share How Thanos Beat Hulk In Avengers: Infinity War

Many have wondered how exactly Thanos was able to so easily beat the Hulk in ‘Avengers: Infinity War‘ and it didn’t just come down to strength. While we know that The Mad Titan already had one of the Infinity Stones when he went toe-to-toe with Bruce Banner’s alter ego, it was quite clear in a re-watch that it never glowed to show that Thanos was using it. While that may not have been obvious on your first showing of the film being caught up in the heat of the moment and not used to seeing the stones glow, a re-watch shows that it was just the film’s villain in all his glory.

It should be noted that it wasn’t just strength which put Thanos in a superior position here as The Russo Brothers explains:

“I would say that he’s just that powerful. You didn’t see him actively use the power stone in that fight. I think ultimately, the way we looked at that fight and the way talked about it with our stunt team when we were executing it was Hulk is obviously very powerful, but he’s a little mindless in his fighting style. It’s aggressive; it’s pummeling. Thanos is the Ghengis Kahn of the universe; he’s a very skilled fighter, equally as strong. So when you put those two up against each other, the more skilled fighter is going to win ultimately. Which is why Hulk has a moment where he overpowers Thanos, but ultimately Thanos is smart.”

While in an all-out fight it could have been a bit closer from Hulk’s pure strength we quickly see that Thanos was able to promptly obtain and keep the upper hand in this encounter. Being able to knock aside the strongest of The Avengers quickly is precisely the kind of moment we needed to show how powerful The Mad Titan was on his own.

Did you catch that Thanos didn’t use the Power Stone when he first fought Hulk in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’? Do you think if Hulk was able to catch Thanos by surprise that he might have been able to make more of an impact? Share your thoughts in the comments below, True Believers!
