This Trailer For Star Trek: Short Treks Puts A Focus On Saru's Origin

While some of the ‘Star Trek: Short Treks‘ are taking a look far into the Discovery’s future, this one which stars Doug Jones as Saru is going to be diving into his past. “Brightest Star” will focus on the origin of Saru far before he joined the ranks of Star Fleet and became a fan favorite character on ‘Star Trek: Discovery.’ We don’t know much about his species known as the Kelpiens outside of the fact that they are considered as “prey species’ which were hunted on their home planet. Due to this, they developed a sixth sense to danger which he has demonstrated throughout the series.

According to the logline, Saru “lived a simple life on his home planet of Kaminar with his father and sister. Young Saru, full of ingenuity and a level of curiosity uncommon among his people, yearns to find out what lies beyond his village, leading him on an unexpected path.”

I’m kind of hoping this path will lead directly into seeing Saru’s first introduction to Star Fleet and what will point him to enlisting.

I think every Trekkies only complaint about these shorts so far is that the network is just giving 10-15 minute teasers while we wait for ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Season 2 and ‘Picard’ Season 1! They aren’t quite enough to tide us over but at least they are helping expand on the lore which is being developed for the series.

Are you looking forward to watching the “Brightest Star” episode of ‘Star Trek: Short Treks’ to learn more about Saru?  Which of these ‘Star Trek: Short Treks’ has resonated the most with you so far? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

“The Brightest Star” will debut on CBS All access on Thursday, December 6th, 2018.
