Doctor Who: Jodie Whittaker's Doctor Gets A New Accessory For New Year's Special

Whovians are already coming to terms with the fact that ‘Doctor Who’ will forgo a traditional Christmas Special this year in favor of a New Year’s episode. Now, a few images from the episode feature Thirteenth Doctor Jodie Whittaker donning some gay apparel and paying homage to a very familiar symbol from ‘Doctor Who’ history.

Whittaker’s rainbow scarf really pulls her outfit together while giving us serious Tom Baker flashbacks at the same time! Another one of the new images from the New Year’s Day episode teases a big clue about the plot of the episode, which is the first of its kind.

Previously released information about the New Year’s special revealed that the episode will follow “a terrifying evil” stirring “from across the centuries of Earth’s history.” An image showing Whittaker taking a good look at excavated human remains with Ryan (Tosin Cole), Yaz (Mandip Gill) and Graham (Bradley Walsh) looking on hints that not all is as it should be.

The bones in question are numbered, which would suggest that the inspection has been organized by someone or something. What we don’t know is where the bones came from and who they belonged to.

Another unknown is the title of the episode, which was written by ‘Doctor Who’ showrunner Chris Chibnall and directed by Wayne Yip. Here is the full synopsis for the special:

As the New Year begins, a terrifying evil is stirring, from across the centuries of Earth’s history.
As the Doctor, Ryan, Graham, and Yaz return home, will they be able to overcome the threat to
planet Earth?

The ‘Doctor Who’ New Year’s Special will air on BBC America on January 1 2019.
