X-Men: Dark PhoenixWith Disney’s purchase of Fox drawing closer to being finalized, ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix‘ could very well be the last installment of the current ‘X-Men’ franchise which kicked off in 2000. We’ve got the latest poster sharing off what to expect from the film and Fox has also finally released the official synopsis as well. While Ryan Reynolds take on ‘Deadpool’ will likely live through the merger, all of the actors who were introduced in ‘X-Men: First Class’ might be donning their uniforms for the last time in this film.

The official synopsis shares a few details which haven’t been made clear in the promotional material that we’ve seen so far. It also doesn’t answer that many questions. Here is the focus on Jean that we’ll be seeing in the film:

In Dark Phoenix, the X-Men face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey. During a rescue mission in space, Jean is nearly killed when she is hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful but far more unstable. Wrestling with this entity inside her, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can neither comprehend nor contain. With Jean spiraling out of control and hurting the ones she loves most, she begins to unravel the very fabric that holds the X-Men together. Now, with this family falling apart, they must find a way to unite – not only to save Jean’s soul but to save our very planet from aliens who wish to weaponize this force and rule the galaxy.

It still isn’t clear as to exactly which alien character we’ll be seeing Jessica Chastain play or if any other villains are involved. However, it does hint at Jean’s slow change into the Dark Phoenix. I’m sure we won’t see her destroy an entire civilization as she does in the comic but I suspect that bad things are coming for our heroes.
