Fans have been dying for the latest installment of “A Song of Ice and Fire” and now author George R.R. Martin is sharing that ‘ The Winds Of Winter‘ will be “very complex” when readers finally get their hands on it. The author of the series which spawned HBO’s smash hit ‘Game of Thrones’ is acknowledging how long the work has taken to complete and shares that “I wish I’d been done four years ago, but I’m slow” before going into a few new details for readers.

Martin admits that he’s so far behind that he ended up skipping his usual ‘Game of Thrones’ set visits this year as:

“Going to set is a lot of fun but there’s nothing for me to do there, so I thought I better stay home and not go to Croatia; or Spain; or Belfast, [Northern] Ireland. I still have two books to write.”

While it is sad that he had to miss these, this may come as good news to some of his fans who have likely grown frustrated with how long they’ve had to wait and with the epic television series outpacing the author’s output. He did share that part of the reasoning that the novel is taking so long outside of his schedule is that “the book is very complex, although there are a lot of great distractions out there.” One of these distractions could be that the 70-year-old was out past midnight at HBO’s Emmy afterparty. Kidding aside, we’re glad progress is being made and that no one is keeping this creative talent chained to his desk so he can’t enjoy his time as he’d like to.

We know that winter won’t be coming in 2018, or at least ‘The Winds of Winter’ won’t be, and right now fans would just love a chance to read it before the HBO series comes to an end.
