Stephen King is a writing machine and has just announced that he has a new title coming out called ‘Sleeping Beauties’ with his son. Interestingly enough, this isn’t with Joe Hill who has already established a name for himself but with his younger son Owen King. Owen tends to write under more mainstream fiction than horror and has only released a 2005 collection of shorts titled ‘We’re All in This Together’ and a novel in 2013 titled ‘Double Feature.’

So if you’re wondering what ‘Sleeping Beauties’ is about, we’ve got the synopsis, and it looks as if Owen is following in Hill’s footsteps and has gone full in on suspense:

In this spectacular father/son collaboration, Stephen King, and Owen King tell the highest of high-stakes stories: what might happen if women disappeared from the world of men?

In a future so real and near it might be now, something happens when women go to sleep; they become shrouded in a cocoon-like gauze. If they are awakened, if the gauze wrapping their bodies is disturbed or violated, the women become feral and spectacularly violent; and while they sleep they go to another place … The men of our world are abandoned, left to their increasingly primal devices. One woman, however, the mysterious Evie, is immune to the blessing or curse of the sleeping disease. Is Evie a medical anomaly to be studied? Or is she a demon who must be slain?

Set in a small Appalachian town whose primary employer is a women’s prison, Sleeping Beauties is a wildly provocative, gloriously absorbing father/son collaboration between Stephen King and Owen King.

That sounds like it is absolutely something King would do and it makes sense with the title that this almost looks like a modern day fairy tale. Also, it has the length you would expect from one of King’s novels as it clocks in at about 720 pages.

King has two previously published books with Joe, so it will be interesting to see how his collaboration with Owen has turned out. I’m wondering how long it will be until the three brainstorm a novel together.

King has been extra busy this year as we’ve also recently heard about the new novella ‘Gwendy’s Button Box‘ which he co-wrote with Richard Chizmar that is set to take place in Castle Rock. The infamous town he has often used in his works will be getting an ongoing live-action series soon on ‘Hulu.’
