Evangeline Lilly

Evangeline Lilly has reconsidered her stance on making a solo movie as The Wasp, now that she’s seen the promotional material for ‘Captain Marvel’.  She had previously been adamant that The Wasp would only appear in movies as long as she was partnered with Paul Rudd‘s Ant-Man, as she was in this year’s hit ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’.  But now she is more open to the idea of a solo ‘Wasp’ picture.

“The original comic books, Ant-Man and the Wasp are a duo. And they’re always a duo. I mean, correct me if I’m wrong, but I feel like you almost never see them not together… And I’ve been asked, ‘Would you like to do a standalone Wasp film?’ And I keep saying, ‘Well, I don’t think so, because they’re partners, and they were always partners, and they’re original founding members of the Avengers and they belong side by side.’ And now I’ve been seeing posters coming out for ‘Captain Marvel’, and I’m like, ‘Ohh, hang on a minute! That looks really fun!’”

While it’s true that originally, The Wasp and Ant-Man were a pair, over the years, in the comic books, The Wasp emerged as her own character, eventually becoming one of the longest-running leaders of The Avengers.  Of course, that was a different Wasp, Janet Van Dyne, played in the movies by Michelle Pfeiffer.  Lilly’s character, Hope was an original creation for the films.  But even so, it would be fitting to see Hope become as influential a character on the big screen as Janet is in the comics.

While ‘Captain Marvel’ will be the first Marvel movie featuring a solo female hero, ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ was the first to include a female hero’s name in its title.

Lilly previously stated:

“I like the MCU and I’d like to stay. But I actually don’t like the idea of a Wasp standalone film,” she said, explaining the characters should remain paired because of their shared comic book history.

“And really, they’re kind of one of the only proper and true teams in the MCU, otherwise it’s mostly a lot of individuals.  And I love the team aspect of it, I love watching the interplay between Wasp and Ant-Man and Ant-Man and the Wasp. For me it’s the most fun part of the film.”

Of course, she also stated that she would stray from Ant-Man’s side in order to be included in an all-female Avengers movie.

What do you think?  Would you like to see a solo movie starring ‘The Wasp’?
