When we’re first introduced to Samuel L. Jackson‘s Nick Fury, he is clearly a shadowy figure who seems to know everything, which is a role that has been expanded upon in every following appearance. However, in Jackson’s next outing in ‘Captain Marvel,’ we’re going to be seeing a very different Nick Fury than what we’re used to. This change isn’t because he’ll be digitally de-aged to a younger version or from still having both of his eyes either.
According to Jackson, this Nick Fury is from the days before he became a master spy that runs S.H.I.E.L.D., and you have to wonder what he has gone through:
“The Nick Fury we meet is sort of a bureaucrat in an interesting sort of way. He hadn’t become jaded or a slave to the cynicism that we normally see. He sort of respects the people that are above him, more so than the Nick Fury that people are used to.”
That alone is a bit change, but he also goes on to share that, “He has a greater sense of humor in this than anything I’ve done before.”
With the inclusion of Skrulls in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and how quickly Fury appears to rise to power and change his attitude from this movie to ‘Iron Man,’ the thought of him ending up as an alien has to be put on the table. While this likely isn’t the case, it might be almost shocking for viewers to see a lighthearted and nearly hopeful character. Perhaps his evolution into being the cynical spymaster will start in this film?
