With Jared Leto (‘Suicide Squad’) attached to Sony’s upcoming ‘Morbius,’ we knew that it would only be a matter of time before details of the film would come falling into place. Another entree into the Spider-Man Cinematic Universe which won’t have the Wallcrawler, ‘Morbius’ is about Dr. Michael Morbius who turned himself into a living vampire to try and cure a fatal blood disease.
He is often portrayed as an anti-hero, and now we’ve learned who will be joining the character when the movie makes its way to the big screen.
First up some information about who the villain may be:
“The casting department was auditioning males, 30-40 years old for the role with actors Riz Ahmed and Rami Malek held in mind as prototypes for the role. It’s likely that this role will be an adaptation of Emil Nikos, Morbius’ friend and partner from the comics, who was also his first victim.”
Nikos will likely be the villain of the story, but the Doctor’s ex-friend won’t be the only one involved. The studio is also casting for a female lead that is an “intelligent, cutthroat businesswoman.” Over the years, Morbius has had an ex-fiance named Martine Bancroft who often would appear. In the comics, she ended up as a full-on vampire, and things don’t entirely go well between the couple after that. For the part, Sony is looking for an actress between 25-40 of any ethnicity.
As the studio is tentatively eyeing a November 2018 start date, I’m sure we’ll be hearing much more on the casting front and other small details being leaked out in the next few months.
With that development time in mind, it wouldn’t come as a surprise to see this launched in the Fall of 2019. No word as to what this production timeline could mean for ‘Silver and Black‘ which recently appears to have been shelved.
