Jason Ritter has signed on to the Netflix superhero family drama ‘Raising Dion’.  The series was created by Dennis Liu, based on his short film of the same name and was ordered straight to series by the streaming service.  Carol Barbee (‘Judging Amy’) will serve as showrunner.  Writer-producer Michael Green, Charles D. King and Kenny Goodman are also attached on the creative side.  Michael B. Jordan is also acting as a producer and will appear as Mark Reese in flashbacks.

‘Raising Dion,’ a Netflix production follows the story of a woman named Nicole Reese,
who raises her son Dion after the death of her husband Mark (Jordan). The normal
dramas of raising a son as a single mom are amplified when Dion starts to manifest
several magical, superhero-like abilities. Nicole must now keep her son’s gifts secret
with the help of Mark’s best friend Pat, and protect Dion from antagonists out to
exploit him while figuring out the origin of his abilities.

Ritter will play Pat, Mark’s best friend, who is described as “a comic-book-reading scientist” who attempts to help Nicole raise her super powered son.  He loves Nicole and Dion like a family and develops a special bond with Dion.

Liu has mainly worked in the documentary arena, in projects like ‘Inventing Tomorrow’ and ‘Great Transitions’.  Ritter meanwhile is just wrapping his ABC sitcom ‘Kevin (Probably) Saves The World’ and Comedy Central’s ‘Another Period’.  He may also be recognized for his work on series like ‘Joan of Arcadia’, ‘The Class’, ‘The Event’, ‘Weasel Town’, ‘Parenthood’, ‘Us & Them’ and ‘Tales of Titans’.  He was also a frequent contributor to Comedy Central’s ‘Drunk History’ and provided the voice of Dipper Pines on the Disney animated series ‘Gravity Falls’.

So far, Ritter and Jordan are the only members cast.  That means the lead characters, Nicole and Dion, have yet to be announced, so wait for that news to surface soon.  ‘Rising Dion’ is still in early development, so Netflix has not announced when it might be available.
