According to actor Richard Armitage, Netflix’s original animated series ‘Castlevania’ is getting a third season, while the second hasn’t even become available yet. “We’re about to record a third,” Armitage, stated, “the second season hasn’t been aired yet, but we’re about to do a third.” Armitage voices Trevor Belmont and is joined by a cast which includes Graham McTavish (Dracula), Alejandra Reynoso (Sypha Belnades) and James Callis (Alucard/Adrian Tepes, Dracula’s son).
The first season of ‘Castlevania’ (based on the 1989 video game ‘Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse’) consisted of only four episodes (it was intended to be a 90-minute movie) but was quickly renewed for an additional eight-episode sophomore season. That batch is due to drop any time now (Netflix previously stated that it would arrive in summer 2018, and well… it’s pretty hot out there…). The first season was enthusiastically embraced by horror and anime fans and critics alike. It also ranked as the 15th most in-demand online streaming series of 2017.
Armitage gave a tease of what to expect from his character when the show returns.

“I love my character in Castlevania… he’s this anti-heroic, drunk, slightly foul-mouthed, irritable git!
“I feel like it would make the most brilliant live-action piece. It’s slightly anarchic and humorous – we don’t often see vampire heroics in that vein. One day, maybe.”
A live action ‘Castlevania’ movie wallowed in development hell for years, with comic book writer Warren Ellis attached since 2007. He has struggled to get it made in some format ever since, before Netflix finally snapped up the rights to produce this anime-inspired series with Ellis as the chief storyteller.
Expect news of the return of ‘Castlevania’ any day now as we are well into the summer. And if we hear any more about Season Three, we’ll pass that along.
