Well, for anyone sad that with the end of ‘Star Wars: Rebels‘ we no longer have a ‘Star Wars’ show currently on the air and wondering what the future of the franchise is on the small-screen, have no fear! Recent news has assured us that there will be more episodic ‘Star Wars’ coming our way! We just might have to wait a year or two…

Anyway, the news broke recently that Lucasfilm has hired Jon Favreau to write and produce a Live-Action ‘Star Wars’ series for Disney’s new streaming service. Of course, that streaming service is not set to launch until 2019, so we may have to wait a bit to actually see this new ‘Star Wars’ series, but I am just fine with that. I am excited to see what kind of show Favreau will be bringing us, not to mention learn what characters it will feature, where it will take place in the timeline, and what genre the show is going to be.

The news was first heard on Starwars.com in a statement by Kathleen Kennedy:

“I couldn’t be more excited about Jon coming on board to produce and write for the new direct-to-consumer platform. Jon brings the perfect mix of producing and writing talent, combined with a fluency in the Star Wars universe. This series will allow Jon the chance to work with a diverse group of writers and directors and give Lucasfilm the opportunity to build a robust talent base.”

And of course, Favreau himself echoed her announcement soon after, stating:

“If you told me at 11 years old that I would be getting to tell stories in the Star Wars universe, I wouldn’t have believed you. I can’t wait to embark upon this exciting adventure.”

For anyone who might not have heard of Jon Favreau (which would be odd nowadays), he started off as a fairly popular character actor gaining most of his best roles in the 90s and early 2000s, before launching his career behind the camera with his first huge movie being ‘Iron Man,’ which he directed, and you know, is the movie that launched the MCU. He has also directed the immensely popular holiday movie ‘Elf,’ as well as ‘Zathura,’ smaller films like ‘Made’ and ‘Chef,’ and more recently the live-action adaptation of Disney’s ‘The Jungle Book,’ and is currently directing Disney’s new live-action adaptation of ‘The Lion King.’ Clearly the man is no stranger to big franchises or working with a big studio, especially Disney, so working with Lucasfilm should not be an issue with him, especially since he has worked with them before, having done voice-over work for both ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’ and voicing an alien character in the upcoming ‘Solo’ movie.

What are your thoughts on a Favreau led live-action ‘Star Wars’ series? Are you excited? Do you have any ideas on what the series is going to be about? Feel free to share your opinions and any theories you might have in the comments below!
