Constantine Animated Series

It’s funny; ‘Constantine’ only lasted one modestly-rated season on NBC, from 2014-15, yet here we are three years later and we’re getting more John Constantine than before.  Not only is Matt Ryan back in the trenchcoat in live action on ‘Legends of Tomorrow’— with strong rumors that he will be joining the cast of the Waverider full-time next season– but The CW Seed is delivering am animated series, in which Ryan will provide the voice of his shady sorcerer.  Not too shabby!

The animated series was announced over a year ago, but now it’s almost here.  The CW has announced that the series will become available to stream starting on March 24.  For fans in the area, The CW will also offer a screening at Anaheim’s WonderCon 2018 on the same date.

This isn’t the first time that Ryan will provide the voice of John Constantine for an animated project.  He voiced the character in the animated ‘Justice League Dark’ movie last year.  The series is the third DC Arrowverse animated series, following ‘Vixen’ and ‘Freedom Fighters: The Ray’.

Just last month, The CW’s executive vice president Peter Girardi stated that the animated series would be darker than the NBC series and would more closely echo the tone of the ‘Hellblazer’ comic book series.

“It’s Constantine, if you’re familiar with the character.  It’s Constantine from the Vertigo comic; it’s dark. Darker than the show.”

Ryan’s next live action appearance will be on the ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ episode ‘Necromancing the Stone’ which is set to air on March 19, 2018.  According to Dominic Purcell, who plays Heatwave, romance may be in the air between Constantine and… Citizen Cold (Wentworth Miller).  He will return for the series finale as well, which miiiiiiiiiiight set him up to return for Season Four.  The release date for that episode has not yet been revealed.
