For those who are hoping the reboot of ‘Roswell‘ can better capture the story of the series than the original, you’ll be thrilled to hear that casting is moving forward and Jeanine Mason (‘Grey’s Anatomy’,’Bunheads’) has landed the leading role! Not only is the leading lady now cast but we’ve got some solid details of who she’ll be playing which sheds light on the series. It was already made clear that this new take on the sci-fi series will deal with immigration, but that doesn’t seem to be the focus here.

Here’s a character description of who Mason will be playing:

Reluctantly returning to her tourist-trap hometown of Roswell, New Mexico, Liz Ortecho (Mason), a jaded biomedical researcher and the daughter of undocumented immigrants, is haunted by a tragic incident. She discovers a shocking truth about her teenage crush who is now a police officer: He’s an alien who has kept his unearthly abilities hidden his entire life. She protects his secret as the two reconnect and begin to investigate his origins, but when a violent attack and long-standing government cover-up point to a greater alien presence on Earth, the politics of fear and hatred threaten to expose him and destroy their deepening romance.

After The CW ordered a pilot they’ve been moving quickly after securing Julie Plec to direct.

‘Roswell’ is a cult-classic but most fans have been okay with the idea of the series being rebooted. From an incomplete story in the two-season original series to a drop in quality, there is still a lot of story to mine from the book that the show is based on.
