westworld

At long last, we have a trailer and a premiere date for ‘Westworld’ Season 2 – and proof that HBO has a LOT of faith in this series. Did you know that HBO has not bought a Superbowl TV Spot since 1999? And even then, the spots were for the entire network and not for a single series! They did not even buy Superbowl spots for ‘Game of Thrones‘ (not that they needed to).

This gets me very excited for what they want to do with ‘Westworld,’ poised as it is to be the successor to ‘Game of Thrones’ once the show bows in 2019 (spin-offs or not, especially since I do not have much faith in those). Even with critics having mixed reviews for the first season, there is a massive fan-base (including yours truly), and HBO clearly is aware of that and wants to cultivate another following like they did with ‘Game of Thrones.’

Anyways, thanks to the trailer, we know a few things. We know Bernard will still be around, as will the Man in Black. We know the havoc in the main ‘Westworld’ control center is far from over, we know Delores is still in control and is rallying the other robots to her as she claims the land for them, and we know the premiere date is April 22, meaning that HBO is also giving ‘Westworld’ the ‘Game of Thrones’ premiere slot from years past (clearly not a coincidence). The trailer does an amazing job of setting the tone for the second season using the piano beats from Kanya West’s ‘Runaway’ (one fan commenting Kanya West-World, which I loved), and taking you straight back into the weird and strange, violent delights of the show that took us by surprise back in 2016. I cannot wait for the second season to premiere, and I will be watching this trailer a lot until it does, looking for clues and beginning to formulate theories for the new season.
