star wars the last jedi

So, a small little science fiction film called ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi‘ just opened up to a pretty stellar box office weekend and now the director is inadvertently pushing fans to buy the Blu-rays. He claims he isn’t and I’m sure it isn’t Disney or Lucasfilm’s plan to make a lot of money off this film, but it just seems like that is what is going to happen.

We all know that ‘The Last Jedi’ had the longest runtime of any chapter in the ‘Star Wars’ franchise so far. However, for as long as the movie was there was a ton that was cut. We’re not even talking about production level content with greenscreens but fully realized action sequences also! This would give us an ultimate director’s cut extended edition that sounds like it could put a DCEU film to shame.

Of course, ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ was a movie that made sense without having to see an extended cut, so it does have that going for it.

According to director Rian Johnson when talking about the length of the movie:

“We shot a lot, man. Just like any other film, it came together in the edit. The editing is the completion of the writing process. We were not at all precious about this film. We tore it apart. We ripped stuff out. There’s going to be a lot of great deleted scenes. I’m not trying to sell Blu-rays here; there are just going to be a lot of deleted scenes.”

They haven’t shared yet the full extent of unseen material that we’ll have a chance to see though Johnson had mentioned that his original cut was over three hours long. As to how long and extensive some of these scenes were?

“And it’s not just shots of characters walking down hallways, either. There are entire sequences that got lifted out of it, which taken on their own are some of my favorite sequences in the movie. But for the good of the whole, they had to come out.”

Producer Ram Bergman agreed with all of this by just stating that “There’s a lot of movie. Even more in the deleted scenes. There’s plenty more.”

I hope that this means that there are plenty more Porgs!
