Get Out‘ was clearly one of the smash hit horror films of 2017 and now creator Jordan Peele has shared what movie is surprisingly in the same universe! Tons of fan theories have been created around this horror film that not only was meant to be social commentary but wasn’t shy about it and now one of them appears to be correct. Specifically, what other movie ends up being a shared universe with this one as it was a title that I would never have guessed even with how obvious it is.

Which movie is it? The cult classic ‘Being John Malkovich’. When you think about it, both of the movies have a group of elders who are trying to live vicariously through the bodies of others. Also, they both star Catherine Keener even though she doesn’t at all play the same part in the two. Unless, of course, her character had to change identities to continue her work in extending life.

Here is what Peele had to say about it:

“Um, wow. I love this theory, I have heard this theory. It was definitely not lost on me that I was able to get Catherine Keener in her second like weird perspective, living in someone else’s brain movie. We joked about that and I’m a huge fan of the movie Being John Malkovich. I also sat down with [Malkovich director] Spike Jonze a couple months ago, told him this theory myself and he chuckled. So as far as I’m concerned, it’s true.”

I’d love to hear Jonze weigh in but I love the idea that this could happen. Two films which would appear to be completely unrelated would actually be so firmly tied to one another. Perhaps a third movie could tie up any loose ends with the two directors working together on creating it? I think that idea might be a stretch but I’d love to see it happen.

You can see the video where he talks about this and other theories below:

Honestly, I love that he feels that some of the theories came around only due to “the power of marijuana” but the fact that one of them did end up being correct, after the fact at least, is brilliant!

Did you notice the similarities of the concept here to ‘Being John Malkovich’ when you watched ‘Get Out’? Would you love to see a third movie come about that actually ties these two fully together? Share your thoughts below!
