lovecraft-countryToday is likely to mark a turning point for horror fans everywhere as HBO is bringing us ‘Lovecraft Country’ with some out of this world talent behind it. In it we’ll see Jordan Peele‘s Monkeypaw Productions and J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot to produce the show. This 1-hour drama is set to be written and directed by Misha Green (‘Underground) who will also be the showrunner of the series. That being said, Peele is the driving force behind the series as he purchased the rights and brought both Bad Robot and Green on board.

Matt Ruff penned the 2016 novel ‘Lovecraft Country’ which will serve as the inspiration for the series. In the story, we follow a “25-year-old Atticus Black. After his father goes missing, Black joins up with his friend Letitia and his Uncle George to embark on a road trip across 1950s Jim Crow America to find him. This begins a struggle to survive and overcome both the racist terrors of white America and the malevolent spirits that could be ripped from a Lovecraft paperback. The goal is an anthological horror series that reclaims genre storytelling from the African-American perspective.”

When talking about the series, Green stated that:

“When I first read Lovecraft Country I knew it had the potential to be unlike anything else on television. Jordan, JJ, Bad Robot, Warner Bros, and HBO are all in the business of pushing the limits when it comes to storytelling, and I am beyond thrilled to be working with them on this project.”

Honestly, Peele was the perfect match for this project and I can’t wait to see what he and Green come up with together.
