han solo leia organa force awakens

The most crushing scene for ‘Star Wars’ fans in ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens‘ was the death of Han Solo and it looks as if it might not be a large factor in ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi‘. While General Leia will surely be crushed at the loss of her one true love, there is so much going on that stopping to have a full on funeral might not fit into the narrative. The galaxy that we’re watching from far far away is at war. While The Starkiller Base might have been destroyed, the First Order has struck a blow against the rest of the galaxy before it went and billions if not trillions of voices cried out and were suddenly silenced forever.

The news itself came from John Boyega and Oscar Isaac during a recent press event. While they didn’t outright say that no mourning would occur in the film, Boyega did say:

“We’re just keeping it moving, to be honest with you, man. It’s true. The pressure’s on, man. There’s no time…In terms of Han, I’m sure we all feel sentimental – if someone were to sit Finn down, sit Rey down. But Rey’s off training, she’s got stuff to do. I’ve got a back injury, I’ve got stuff to do. I can’t think about Han at the moment.”

Surely it would be Leia and possibly even Daisy Ridley’s Rey that felt the most hurt from this loss. However, there is likely to be non-stop action as the New Order has to cement its position as the new Empire by breaking any treaties that were in place.

Speaking of the war going on, Isaac also added:

“We’re trying to survive. The First Order is right on top of us. It is like war – you just gotta keep moving to try and survive. So I think you feel the momentum of everything that happens in The Force Awakens just pushing and getting to a critical mass in this film.”

As Poe states, there is a lot going on. Just because the Starkiller Base was destroyed doesn’t mean that they have a slew of other problems to go up against. Also, Snoke doesn’t seem like the kind of villain who would put all of his eggs in one basket.

Are you sad to hear that Han Solo likely won’t be getting the funeral that he deserves? Can you imagine that they’d even really have time to focus on this while going toe to toe against the New Order? Share your thoughts below!
