In the past few days, Warner Brothers’ ‘Shazam!’ has made a lot of waves with the casting of Zachary Levi as the titular superhero, gifted with the power of the gods.  Originally, Dwayne Johnson was attached to co-star as the villain Black Adam, but Warner Brothers later decided to spin ‘Black Adam’ off into his own film.  ‘Shazam!’ will continue to be released on April 5, 2019, with David F. Sandberg attached to direct with a script by Henry Gayden.

Now it seems ‘Black Adam’ is also moving forward.  According to sources, Adam Sztykiel has signed on to pen the script.  Sztykiel previously contributed to the films ‘Made of Honor’, ‘Due Date’, ‘Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip’ and ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul’ as well as the TV series ‘Undateable’.  He also served as executive producer of ‘Undateable’ and TV movies ‘Awesometown’, ‘A Bronx Life’ and ‘Spaced Out’.

As of right now, there is no director attached to ‘Black Adam’, nor is a release date set.

In the comics, Black Adam was the first champion selected by the wizard Shazam to protect the Earth but he became corrupted by the power and tried to conquer the world before being banished.  In more recent comics, he has been recast as an antihero, who uses his powers to protect his homeland of Khandaq, a fictional middle eastern nation.  He was married to the hero Isis before her death and has spent an unknown period of time attempting to resurrect her.  At one point, he wiped out every man, woman and child in the country of Bialya after the deaths of Isis and her brother Osiris.  He attempted to do the same to China but was opposed by the superheroes of the world.  His invasion was thwarted but he managed to kill two of the Teen Titans, Terra and Young Frankenstein.

At this point, Johnson is still attached to play ‘Black Adam’ in the film.  This marks another DC Comics movie to star a super villain, in addition to ‘Deathstroke’, ‘Gotham City Sirens’, possibly ‘Harley Quinn Vs. The Joker’ and the disconnected ‘Joker’ origin movie.
