russo brothers

One set of directors has become a golden standard for the Marvel Cinematic Universe and when you aren’t mentioning James Gunn, that means the Russo Brothers. From their work on ‘Captain America: Winter Soldier’ and onward they’ve been delivering a solid narrative for the more grounded parts of Marvel’s films, and now it looks like they might be on their way out. From ‘Avengers: Infinity War‘ to the still untitled ‘Avengers 4‘ they’ve been putting all of their worlds into this world and filming these last two back to back might be where their tenure comes to an end.

The news doesn’t come directly from the brothers themselves though but from Josh Brolin. The actor who is playing Thanos was recently interviewed to promote his upcoming film ‘Only The Brave’ and of course, his time with Marvel has come up. When asked about working with the two he stated that:

“…Also, I think that they’re in a position very openly and raw-ly where they’re like, ‘We would never do this again. This is a one-time deal. To put this many successful actors together is such a pain in the ass, but it’s been worth it. We’re doing two movies. One back to back, and this is it for us. Then we’ll go off in another direction,’ but this is a very, very, very ambitious project that I think is going to pay off in a big way.”

You do have to keep in mind that not only is this quote not coming from the Russos but that could also just be viewed that they’ll want to do something else before handling another Marvel Studios film or just take a break between filming their next installment. With ‘Avengers 4’ in production and still quite a ways out from being released, this is something that fans won’t have to really worry over for quite some time to come. However, it would be fun to speculate that since James Gunn has been pushing the cosmic narrative and the Russos were mainly working on Earth until the upcoming ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ that it could indicate what direction the films will be heading in after ‘Avengers 4’ comes to a close.
