Runaways

It seemed for a time that Marvel’s success with live adaptions of their comic characters would be seen in films while DC’s claim would be in their television versions. But that may soon be coming to an end as Marvel has upped their small screen presence with the likes of ‘The Gifted,’ ‘Legion,’ and the soon to be released ‘Cloak and Dagger,’ and ‘New Mutants.’ (Yes, I purposely am not mentioning that one new one that debuted in IMAX theaters and ABC.) With the House of Ideas having a strong hold on the streaming service of Netflix, they now turn their attention to Hulu with the series ‘Runaways.’ Ahead of their New York Comic Con panel, Hulu has released the first trailer showcasing the new series.

As the voiceover states, “Every teenager thinks their parents are evil. What if you found out they actually were?” The premise is based on the 2003 comic series by Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona and centers on a group of mismatched teens with extraordinary powers who find out that their parents are collectively part of an evil group called The Pride, supervillains in disguise. They band together and run away from home determined to fight against their parents and discover the secrets of their origins.

Considering Vaughn is a producer on the series brings comfort that it will stay pretty true to the essence of his work. In an interview with CBR Vaughn stated:

“I just did a little consulting early in the process, but I think the Runaways found the ideal ‘foster parents’ in Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. They took a weird comic set in the Marvel Universe of 2002, and lovingly adapted it into a stylish drama that feels like contemporary Los Angeles. Love the cast, crew and especially the writers they assembled. And the pilot looks like an Adrian Alphona comic! I can’t wait to watch this first season unfold.”

From the looks of this trailer, we can’t wait too!

Marvel’s ‘Runaways’ will debut on the streaming service Hulu for 10 episodes beginning November 21.
