agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Fellow fans of Marvel’s ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘ have plenty to worry about as it looks as if the series is hanging on by a thread. ABC was unhappy with early reviews of ‘Inhumans, ‘ but it sounds like that is just an extension of their overall dissatisfaction with Marvel’s television arm. In fact, the network wanted to put an end to Agent Coulson’s team before eventually returning for a fifth season. It looks like we have Disney to thank for the return of Earth’s secretive spy series for at least one more outing as they required ABC to give us another go at it.

What that means for the future of the series though is quite questionable.

We learned that:

““Inhumans” has not been the only source of friction between ABC and Marvel. Earlier this year, the mandate came down from Disney for ABC to renew its other Marvel drama, “Agents of SHIELD,” despite the desire by some at the network to end the series after four seasons. Having aired on Tuesdays since its inception, “SHIELD” is shifting to Friday nights this season when “Inhumans” finishes its initial eight-episode run.”

Friday nights have historically been the death night for a series. While DVR and streaming numbers have saved shows with that timeslot, it still turns away casual viewers. With already low numbers, this could potentially be the end of the show.

What really is a shame at that though is the series finally feels to have not only gained its stride but is building up momentum. It has gone from painful to watch to fun to engrossing. Everything is based on numbers though, and hopefully, Disney either remains happy with how many are watching the series or is holding out long enough to bring the series to its exclusive network.
