With all of the excitement for the Marvel/ Netflix ‘Punisher’ series coming out, many fans have been wondering if all of their favorite aspects of the Frank Castle character and comics would be making their way into the adaptation. We already know a few of his supporting cast of characters have made the series, including his ally Micro who will help him in his war on crime, but the bigger question for many fans is whether or not we will get to see Frank Castle drive around in the War Van, the iconic transportation the Punisher uses as his mobile command center and armory. And good news for all, it seems we will indeed.
According to Marvel’s Jeph Loeb:
“They travel around in the Battle Van in the comics, so it was important for us to do our version of that. It’s not the Batmobile, but it’s definitely an iconic character that people know.”
Movie Pilot reports that the Battle Van’s parking bay is a “central part of the set” and has the Punisher’s armory placed right next to it, so Frank can grab whatever he needs at a moment’s notice, toss it in the van and be on his way. The real question though is just how formidable the Van will be in the series. In the comics, it is basically a tank in the shape of a van, with bullet-proof glass, machine guns that come out of all sorts of places, a rocket-launcher on the roof, and enough armor on it to smash through the walls of buildings relatively easily and keep going. In the more grounded world of the Netflix MCU that may not be entirely feasible, but then again, they might find a way to make it work. This is the Punisher after all, and if they gave it a good explanation, I would go for it, no matter how ridiculous it might seem. The Battle Van is almost as iconic for the character as the Batmobile is for Batman, so whatever they decide to do with it, just having it in ‘The Punisher’ series make me happy.
