‘Daredevil’ Season Three won’t arrive until late in 2018, but production is slated to begin in mid-October. It looks like showrunners Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez are busy planning out the upcoming storyline, including the major villain. This season is reportedly going to be based on the comic book story ‘Born Again’, in which a down-and-out, drug-addicted Karen Page sells Matt Murdock’s secret identity to the Kingpin, which led to both halves of Matt’s life crumbling to ruin. This excited some fans who were anxious to see Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk take back his criminal empire. And that may still happen, but it appears that at least one other villain may steal a bit of the spotlight.
Here is a new casting call for the series:
[STEVE] 28-35, 5’9-6’1, Open ethnicity. An athletic but socially awkward FBI Agent, needs structure and rules to suppress the darkness inside himself. Athletic with medium build, responsible and resourceful, hair trigger temper. SERIES REGULAR
“Steve” is a fake name, as is the norm with these types of casting calls. It’s been speculated by The Hashtag Show that this role is that of the vigilante Sin-Eater, Stanley Carter, a former agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. who agreed to be the test subject for an experimental drug that gave its users enhanced abilities. But the PCP-like side effects were deemed too dangerous and the project was cancelled. Angry at being cut off, Carter quit the agency and joined the New York police department, but after his partner was murdered, his drug-damaged mind snapped. He adopted a masked identity as Sin-Eater and begins murdering people in positions of power that he determined had abused this power, including judges, lawyers, and priests.
This could drag Matt’s confidante Father Lantom into the mix if Sin-Eater decides that he thinks the priest is corrupt. Since Lantom know’s Matt’s secret, if it comes to life or death, could he perhaps reveal this secret instead of Karen? (Karen on the show is at a much different place that Karen in the comics was during this story.)
Then again, it’s also possible that this casting call is for another character entirely. For one thing, Season Two already showcased a different righteous vigilante– The Punisher. It could be interesting for the show to perhaps contrast the two, but there is also the risk that these two characters could come across as too similar.
In other news, ‘Daredevil’ Season Three is set to begin production on October 12, 2017 and wrap up on June 30, 2018. Reportedly, ‘Daredevil’ will be released late in 2018, following ‘Jessica Jones’ and ‘Luke Cage’ Seasons Two. ‘Iron Fist’ Season Two is due in the first half of 2019. Though nothing has been officially announced, if there is a second helping of ‘The Defenders’, it will follow that.
