From one comic property to another, Ed Skrein (‘The Transporter Refueled’) has moved from ‘Deadpool’ to the ‘Hellboy’ reboot! Skrein is lined up to join a cast that already includes David Harbour as Hellboy, Ian McShane (‘American Gods’) as Doctor Broom, Milla Jovovich as the Blood Queen, and Sasha Lane in final negotiations to become Hellboy’s future love interest. Skrein has a pretty busy filming commitment at the moment as he is already filming ‘Born a King’ and is also attached as one of the leading actors in James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez’s ‘Alita: Battle Angel.’

For the reboot of ‘Hellboy’ by Lionsgate and Millennium, we’ll see Skrein playing Major Benjamin Daimio who is the first member of the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense, or B.P.R.D. that we’ve seen cast so far! He is “a rugged military member” of the outfit and is a bit of a were-jaguar though can only turn when he is angry or in pain. So much like the Hulk, you wouldn’t like Daimio when he’s angry. The character wasn’t always like this and ended up this way after a supernatural encounter before joining the Bureau so one would assume that he already has these powers when the film kicks off.

Daimio was first introduced after the ‘Plague of Frogs’ comics in ‘The Dead’ and had become a major character in future events for many years before eventually appearing to die in ‘The Long Death’ after a prolonged fight with a Wendigo.

He isn’t the most well liked of the B.P.R.D. but is one of their most capable soldiers against the supernatural though is often battling his own inner demons which stems from his earlier encounter that gave him his powers. An interesting note is that in the comics he doesn’t work along side Hellboy and is usually paired with Abe, Liz, or Roger so it should be interesting to see a cinematic version of these two having interactions with one another.

Are you happy to hear that Daimio will be one of the B.P.R.D. in the film? How much of an impact do you think he’ll have to the story? Share your thoughts below!
