In the maddening wait for Season 7 of ‘Game of Thrones’ (will July never come?) there has been a lot of rumors and speculation, especially in regards to Jon Snow and what the future will bring for one of the all-time fan-favorite characters on the show. With Season 6 bringing Jon back from the dead and revealing his true parentage in Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen, everyone is now wondering whether Jon will join his aunt Daenerys in attempting to conquer and rule Westeros or be content to remain the North.

Now, it seems that Empire magazine is also pointing out that we have even more new information about Jon, namely, his true name. According to the latest issue of Empire which has a feature on the latest season of ‘Game of Thrones,’ we learned Jon’s official name during the flashback sequence of Season 6:

“As we saw in the last episode of season six, Bran’s (Isaac Hempstead Wright) psychic time-traveling “greensight” revealed the true nature of Jon’s birth heritage and his real name: Jaehaerys Targaryen. “Bran’s now in this precarious situation in which it’s just him and Meera [Ellie Kendrick], and he has all of this information that could change the entire story,” says Hempstead Wright. And it’s not just about Jon. “He knows about the origin of the White Walkers, too.””

However, it should be noted that the author of this article has come out and stated that his “source” is the well-known fan theory, and is not based on any official confirmation from the show, the actors, or George RR Martin.

However, it does make a lot of sense, and if you watch the scene in question, this is mostly likely what Lyanna says to Ned Stark when she hands him the baby. The name Jaehaerys is not a new one for the Targaryen family either, as Jaehaerys was a well-known ruler of Westeros, and the man responsible for making peace with the Faith, who originally did not get along with the Targaryen family due to all the incest they took part in. Some are claiming that the name may even be a hint of more familial incest coming up in the series between Dany and Jon, whose union could make for a very powerful force capable of uniting Westeros and potentially defeating the White Walkers (and the books are called ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ as others have pointed out, with Jon clearly representing ice and Dany fire.)

What are your thoughts here? Do you think this theory is right and Jon’s name is truly Jaehaerys? Could he and Dany be getting together in the future? Share your opinions and any theories you might have in the comments section below!
