We haven’t heard much about Sean Astin‘s character which is being introduced in the second season of ‘Stranger Things‘ but thanks to the Duffer Brothers, we’ve got some details to share with you. With Astin’s character of Mikey in ‘The Goonies’ being one of the characters who helped inspire the kids in the series, it is only fitting that he’ll be part of the show as well.

Who is he? Here’s what the Duffer brothers say:

“He’s a manager at Radioshack, and he’s dating Joyce. He’s a sweet guy. I think Sean, more than anyone else that came in this season, completely shaped this character. It was probably, on the page, the least interesting, and not specifically meant to be as important of a role as it ended up being. What he brought to the performance completely elevated it and inspired us as we wrote. We were able to evolve his character as we we went along, and he just ended up being so great.”

It sounds like he was almost meant to be a one-off to be in Joyce’s life and with his acting helped become an actual focus in the upcoming season. Now, I’m even more curious as to what he’ll be bringing to the small screen when we see him introduced. The way he did it was unexpected as well:

“Sean just surprised us. We had a different image for that character he’s playing. The Bob character. Somehow our casting director turned us onto this idea of Sean and then suddenly the character became so much more interesting to us. He just blew everybody away. We’re just so excited for everyone to see him in this.”

It sounds like we’ll be getting another round of incredibly strong acting in the second season and I can’t wait to see it.

How do you think Sean was able to outshine his original part and expand his character? Do you think he’ll jump right into dealing with the darkness that the kids have been dealing with or will he be suspect of the paranormal events happening around town? Share your thoughts below!
