Right now, ‘Wonder Woman’ is burning up the box office, but that’s far from the last superhero movie coming down the pike this summer. Coming up, we have Sony’s reboot of the ‘Spider-Man’ franchise, with the Jon Watts-directed ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ with Tom Holland in the lead role. This film is a milestone in that it was produced in conjunction with Marvel Studios, which has an almost perfect record with its comic book adaptations. That means Spidey will co-exist alongside Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark/Iron Man, Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers/Captain America and even Jon Favreau’s Happy Hogan, who hasn’t been seen since ‘Iron Man 3’.
Joining Holland will be Jacob Batalon as Peter’s best friend Ned Leeds, Marisa Tomei as Aunt May, Laura Harrier as Liz Allen, Angourie Rice as Betty Brant, Zendaya as Michelle, Martin Starr as Mr. Holland, and Michael Keaton in the role of the film’s Big Bad, The Vulture. Also part of the cast are Logan Marshall-Green, Donald Glover, Bokeem Woodbine, Tony Revolori, Garcelle Beauvais and Tyne Daly. Tony Barbieri appears as Jason Macendale, a character that comic fans know as a supervillain, first Jack O’Lantern, then the Hobgoblin. Hopefully this means that Sony isn’t going to bring back the Green Goblin any time soon.
In this new clip, Holland’s Peter Parker tries out his new mechanized suit from Tony Stark, which features many new powers that haven’t previously been seen in the ‘Spider-Man’ movies.
Check them out below:
A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging super hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.). Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine – distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man – but when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is directed by Jon Watts, from a screenplay by Jonathan M. Goldstein & John Francis Daley and Watts & Christopher Ford and Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers, and stars Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Zendaya, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Tyne Daly, Bokeem Woodbine, Marisa Tomei, and Robert Downey Jr.
‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ hits US theaters on July 7, 2017.
