alien the crossing

WARNING: This article contains minor spoilers for ‘Alien: Covenant’ and major spoilers for ‘Prometheus.’ Proceed at your own risk!

April 26th has been christened “Alien Day” in honor of the original film’s utilization of the designation “LV-426” for their extra-terrestrial setting.  The day was only first celebrated last year to help commemorate the 30th anniversary of the original film’s release, but a budding holiday is always a good thing, and this year 20th Century Fox brought back Alien Day, with some fun goodies released on 4/26 to boot!

Feast your eyes upon “The Crossing,” being billed as a short prologue to the upcoming ‘Alien: Covenant‘ film.  “The Crossing” not only stars Michael Fassbender as android David – the same(ish) role he will be reprising in ‘Covenant’ – but also Noomi Rapace reprising her role as Shaw from ‘Prometheus.’  Rapace’s appearance is doubly impressive when you realize that she is not appearing in ‘Covenant,’ at least not be the info we’ve been given so far!

Could “The Crossing” have, at one point, been the opening scene to ‘Covenant,’ being recycled by Fox?  Who cares – it’s awesome to see!  Check it out:

The Crossing, an official prologue short to Alien: Covenant, reveals what happened to crew members Dr. Elizabeth Shaw and the synthetic David after the events of Prometheus. Set aboard an abandoned Engineer vessel, Dr. Shaw repairs David as they continue their search for humanity’s creators.

Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created, with ALIEN: COVENANT, a new chapter in his groundbreaking ALIEN franchise. The crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world. When they uncover a threat beyond their imagination, they must attempt a harrowing escape.

‘Alien: Covenant’ will be released in American theaters on May 19, 2018.
