We’re still not quite sure where ‘Jessica Jones‘ will find herself after being one of ‘The Defenders’ but we do know that actress Janet McTeer (‘Tumbleweeds’,’Damages’) will somehow be involved when the series returns! This Golden Globe-winning and two-time Academy Award nominated actress will bring a strong character to the screen. At this time we just don’t know if she’ll be working against Jessica or perhaps even being one of her clients.
That’s right ladies and gentlemen right now all we know is that she “will play an undisclosed character who will have an enormous impact on Jessica’s life.” You could take this vague description in so many ways that it is hard to even speculate with the lack of details which have been shared about the second season so far.
According to Marvel’s Head of Television and Executive Producer, Jeph Loeb:
“We are so fortunate to have an actress of Janet’s talent and stature join what is already an incredible cast. Our second season of ‘Marvel’s Jessica Jones’ aims to capture what audiences loved about our first, and Janet will be key to achieving that goal.”
The series Creator and Executive Producer, Melissa Rosenberg chimed in that:
“We couldn’t possibly be more excited to work with Ms. McTeer for our second season. Her gravitas and authenticity are the perfect ingredients for all we’re trying to create this year. She disappears into roles, gives her characters extraordinary dimension and depth. We’re incredibly fortunate to be able to collaborate with her.”
Finally, Cindy Holland, Vice President of original content at Netflix also praised her joining the cast by saying:
“Janet McTeer is the consummate actor, slipping seamlessly into each character she brings to life. We’re thrilled to have her join the outstanding cast, led by the fearless Krysten Ritter.”
I highly suspect that she will end up being the actress who Ritter’s character will be up against this season, but it is unclear if they are going to be loosely adapting an existing plot from the comics as they did in the first season or give us something entirely new.
Ultimately, the Purple Man arc was probably the strongest story told about Jessica Jones so it would almost seem that we’ll be getting something new for the next outing. Of course, we also don’t know how any fallout from ‘The Defenders’ will leave her either physically, emotionally, or in the public eye.
