Dark_Nights-METAL_PromoScott Snyder and Greg Capullo are back after ‘Batman’ to give us ‘Dark Knight: Metal’ and a new direction for the Caped Crusader and beyond. Their run on ‘Batman’ has been the best-selling for DC in decades and now they’re shaking up the entire DC universe in a way you wouldn’t expect. The news dropped at Fan Expo Dallas over the weekend with some pretty big statements.

According to Snyder, this new series wouldn’t just be “bigger than Batman” but “the definitive project of our careers.” That is no small statement after how much they’ve rocked DC’s sales in recent years. The project will kick off in June and July with two special ‘Dark Days’ issues that Snyder is co-writing with James Tynion IV of ‘Detective Comics’ though the new series will officially launch in August.

While we don’t know exactly what the book is about quite yet, “the storyline will examine unexplored decisions and paths once available to the heroes of its superhero universe” which is pretty vague.

DC Entertainment publisher Dan DiDio is stoked for the project though and states that:

I couldn’t be more excited to see Scott and Greg take on the DC Universe. Dark Nights: Metal leans into the strength of the relationship Scott and Greg forged on Batman to launch something new and unexpected. We’re pushing the world’s finest heroes in new, unexplored directions to tell a giant story, using all the characters in our pantheon.

Snyder jumped back in on the conversation though to say that while the title might suggest that bad things are coming that “Even with terror and nightmares, it won’t be grim” as the story will actually “be celebratory, huge and crazy. I’ve said it before: I am going for out-of-control dinosaurs and lasers.”

You can’t go wrong with dinosaurs and lasers. I mean, we know Bruce has long had a fetish for dinosaurs so this could be a great fit!
