BenAffleck-Batman

This doesn’t look good.  First, Ben Affleck abdicated the director’s chair for the first ‘Batman’ movie that was supposed to be part of the larger DC Expended Universe of films, allowing Matt Reeves (‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’) to take over.  Now it looks as if the script for ‘The Batman’, which was worked on in collaboration between Affleck, DC Comics’ Geoff Johns and Chris Terrio, who collaborated with Affleck on ‘Argo’ and also contributed to ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’ and the two upcoming ‘Justice League’ movies, is being thrown out entirely!  Reeves is apparently working on ‘War For the Planet of the Apes’ until June, but after that, it appears he will be either working on a new script or will have one penned.  And considering it takes months to write a script, there’s no way ‘The Batman’ will arrive in theaters by 2018 as planned.  But for the record, the original script for ‘The Batman’ had the Dark Knight facing off against Deathstroke the Terminator, played by Joe Manganiello.  At this point, there’s no telling if that will still be the case.

Variety’s Justin Kroll took to Twitter to update fans:

Since the movie is (reportedly) being re-written from scratch, there’s no telling what characters will be in it. Hell, they could write Crazy Quilt and Killer Moth into it at this point.

On a more somber note, Affleck just revealed that he had completed another stint in rehab due to alcohol addiction.  There’s no indication that this had anything to do with the delay of ‘The Batman’… but it’s not good.  Best wishes, Ben!

However, it was reported that Warner Brothers was happy with the last draft, so there may not be any major changes.  We’ll just have to wait and see.

Are you disappointed that ‘The Batman’ starring Ben Affleck is being delayed?
