iron-fist

There has been a lot of talk about whether not we will see Danny Rand actually get into a full costume as the hero Iron Fist in his upcoming Netflix series, especially since he has one of the more retro uniforms of the all of the Netflix Marvel heroes, including that crazy collar that could potentially ride up higher than his head. And while the teasers have shown him in robes that are similar in color scheme to the Iron Fist costume, we have not seen him in the actual attire worn by the Marvel hero. Alas, it seems that the Iron Fist costume may not actually be in the cards for the first season of the hero, as has occurred with most of the heroes in Netflix’s corner of the MCU. Jessica Jones only briefly showed her costume during a flashback (and she was not even wearing it, but let’s be real, she is not the hero to really want or need a costume), they just barely managed to sneak in a cameo of Luke Cage’s costume during his first season, and it took a bit of work to actually make it happen, and Daredevil did not get into costume until the final episode of his first season, so this is not that surprising. The news was confirmed recently by ‘Iron Fist’ show-runner Scott Buck in the latest issue of SFX Magazine:

“There was no good reason we could imagine to put Danny Rand in a costume. Because Danny Rand is still discovering who he is as a hero and where he is going to be, so he’s not yet ready to put on a mask or a costume….he is someone who is rather well known as a billionaire, so he can’t necessarily go out in public and do the things he does without being recognized. It does become an issue for the character.”

All this considered, ‘Iron Fist’ is going to be pretty crazy even without a bright green and yellow costume, so they probably do not need it in the first season, especially since Danny Rand will be instantly recognizable with his glowing “iron fist.” Still, it is nice when shows are able to naturally introduce a costume, and in the case of ‘Daredevil,’ it was a triumphant moment when Matt Murdock finally donned the suit.
