With Valiant Entertainment starting to bring their comic line to the big screen in the near future so it should come as no surprise that there is “a new dawn for Valiant’s greatest heroes” about to kick off. These “Icons” include X-O Manowar, Faith, Bloodshot, Shadowman, and the ‘Harbinger Wars 2’ which are all set to kick off this year. While the teaser artwork above is by Felipe Massafera, there is no word as to if he’ll be focusing on any of these comics though we have learned who some of the creative teams behind them will be!
According to Hunter Gorinson, Valiant’s VP of Marketing & Communications:
In 2016, Valiant successfully opened up many new frontiers of our universe with successful new properties like Divinity II, Britannia, Generation Zero, Savage, and more. Now, in 2017, our biggest and most iconic characters will be mounting a seismic return to the forefront of the Valiant Universe – beginning with the new X-O MANOWAR #1 by Matt Kindt and Tomas Giorello on March 22nd. That series will begin the ICONS initiative in force and is just the first of many new titles of similarly huge scale and ambition for Valiant’s most iconic characters that will follow throughout the year as we build toward the previously announced HARBINGER WARS 2 event in 2018.
X-O MANOWAR is celebrating his 25th anniversary in 2017, but he’s not the only one – look for more Valiant ICONS including FAITH, BLOODSHOT, SHADOWMAN, and HARBINGER’s Toyo Harada (in HARBINGER WARS 2) to join him for other major launches throughout the year.
The artwork shows off X-O Manowar’s Aric of Darcia, Harbinger’s Faith Herbert, Bloodshot, Shadowman’s Jack Boniface and Harbinger’s Toyo Harada so I would expect them to all have significant arcs in the months ahead.
While the 25th anniversary is clearly a good reason on its own for this event, I suspect the future cinematic takes on characters did play into their consideration.
