mutant

If you thought ‘Legion‘ was the only X-Men themed television show that Fox was going to get off the ground you can think again as the studio has just announced that Matt Nix (‘Burn Notice’,’The Good Guys’) has an unnamed mutant show coming to the small screen! At this time the show has only been ordered to pilot but with Nix behind it, we’ll likely see it get further than the defunct ‘Hellfire Club’ which has spiraled down into limbo. On top of this, we’ll see Bryan Singer, Simon Kinberg, and Lauren Shuler Donner from Fox Executive Producing as well as Marvel’s Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory.

While a specific mutant or set of mutants hasn’t been named quite yet we do have some hints at what the series is about. The show is being described as an “action-adventure series” which have two parents find out that their children are mutants. The government is now after them and to survive we see the entire family join “an underground network of mutant fugitives.” It doesn’t really sound like a specific cell of the ‘X-Men’ which we’ve seen so far though could be related to quite a few groups which have been shown over the years.

There is no word as to which Fox network this will land on as of yet though it does sound as if the show IS connected to the X-Men cinematic which Fox has built as Nix has stated:

“A fan of the movies but also the comics would not be disoriented at all as to where this fits in the mythology. If you look at the movies, which take place from — they started in 2003 to now — they don’t all line up perfectly. I’m not slavishly fitting them into a particular slot. But at the same time, if you like the world of the movies, there are definite nods to the movies. It exists in the same general universe.”

However, a time period hasn’t been set though and it won’t be running in the same timeline of the films as ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ tries to do with the Marvel movies and the new series “acknowledges that events like the events that have happened in movies have happened. But it’s not up to date.” From what Donner has said in the past, what is known is that “mutants are hated and there are Sentinels — though very different from what we’ve seen before.”

If ‘New Mutants‘ wasn’t already being turned into a film I would guess this could be the group they’re joining if they go off of an existing team. Other options could be ‘Generation X’ or the ‘Morlocks’ if they aren’t being run by someone evil at the time.

Are you excited for another X-Men themed television series? Which set of mutants do you think we might see this family joining or will it be an entirely new premise? Share your thoughts below True Believers!
