It was pretty big deal when Marvel Television announced that they would be producing an eight-episode series starring the Inhuman Royal Family for ABC. And things got even bigger when they shared that the first two episodes on ‘Inhumans’ would be presented together in IMAX over Labor Day weekend before debuting on the network as part of their fall season. So naturally, when it came time to hire a director for this monumental event, the House of Ideas had to enlist someone that could handle a project this big.

According to Marvel.com, Dutch filmmaker Roel Reiné has signed on to direct the first two episodes of ‘Inhumans’. While he may not be a well-known name in Hollywood just yet, he has racked up a series of accolades in The Netherlands for his films ‘The Delivery’ (which earned him the Dutch equivalent of an Oscar for best director) and ‘Admiral’. Reiné has also helmed a number of straight-to-video action film such as ‘The Man with the Iron Fists 2’, ‘Death Race 2’, and ‘The Scorpion King 3’. And though those last films may not instill True Believers with any confidence in the filmmaker, it’s very important to note that Marvel has taken huge chances behind the camera that have paid off. James Gunn, Peyton Reed, and the Russo brothers are only a few examples of directors that were perceived as risky or questionable at first, but look at the awesome movies that we now have as a result.

While Reiné may not have been anyone’s first choice to preside over the first appearances of Black Bolt, Medusa, and the rest of the Inhuman Royal Family in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we could all end up being pleasantly surprised because Marvel tends to cultivate untapped talent all the time. But until we get a real idea of what his vision of the Inhumans turns out to be, let us know what you initially think about the hiring in the comments below.
