The first time Wolverine met Wade Wilson on the big screen, things didn’t turn out so well. When Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool came face to face with Hugh Jackman’s claw-wielding warrior in ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ in 2009, the Merc With a Mouth somehow ended up without a mouth (or a head, for that matter) and audiences were left with one of the worst comic book movies ever made. But leading up to the release of ‘Deadpool’ earlier this year, fans were hoping that the Aussie actor would make an appearance alongside the fan favorite mercenary to make up for it. Despite a fun gag during the spinoff’s climax (as seen above), Jackman didn’t actually show up and all hope was basically lost since he had announced that 2017’s ‘Logan’ would be his final X-Men film. However, reports have surfaced today saying that a proper meeting between the two beloved mutants will actually take place in that movie.

According to sources close to The Wrap, Ryan Reynolds will appear in James Mangold’s upcoming R-rated superhero blockbuster sporting a familiar red suit in a scene directed by ‘Deadpool 2’ director David Leitch. Though the scene won’t likely appear in the movie itself where an older Logan and a sickly Professor X team up for one last adventure, it is said that it will be a post-credits scene meant to tease the future of 20th Century Fox’s Marvel mutant franchise.

However, as soon as this report hit the web, Reynolds himself took to Twitter to weigh in on it:

Director James Mangold wasn’t happy with the rumor from The Wrap and had a few choice tweets on the news himself using the hashtag #fakenews:

At the time of this writing, the studio has declined to comment on whether or not this scene exists or not. Although, I think that it’s safe to say that everyone (including Reynolds, despite his tweet) want this to be a thing. So as we await confirmation, let us know if you’re excited about the possibility of seeing Deadpool (the way that he was meant to be) and Wolverine onscreen together again in ‘Logan’. What do you think a scene between the two X-Men would entail? Share your thoughts and theories in the comments below.

‘Logan’ starring Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Boyd Holbrook, Elise Neal, Stephen Merchant, Elizabeth Rodriguez, and Richard E. Grant hits theaters on March 3, 2017.
